💥 From editing random shorts in my bedroom a year ago, to working full time for The Diary Of A CEO @ Flight Studio - a whirlwind is an understatement! 👀 I’ve already received so many DMs asking for my top video editing and content creation tips. Thank you! While I am by no means an expert, here are my five MUST DOs for video editing. Grab your notepad—this is going to be meaty! (To be honest, a lot of these can apply to life in general 🤯) 👉 Value This should happen long before any editing takes place. Ask yourself: What’s the value here? Does it educate? Entertain? Update? Time is too precious, so make sure your content offers something valuable in return. Even if the editing process is valuable to your own development, that is still value. 👉 Excellence If you are not striving for excellence, then honestly, what are you doing? Okay, we are not perfect by any means. It takes time to develop skills, learn, and grow as a creator. However, the best content creators and editors plan and meticulously focus on every single detail—that is excellence. For every piece of content, try to improve at least one small thing. The compounding effect of this is astronomical. This is the 1% mindset. 👉 Hook The first 5-10 seconds will make or break your content—you don’t have to be MrBeast to get this right. The best hooks will showcase the value to the viewer (why do I deserve your time?), hint at the journey you’ll take the viewer on, engage, intrigue, and maybe even provide a little payoff in itself. What if we can fulfill the video’s title in the first 10 seconds but provide so much more that the viewer HAS to continue? 👉 Reward End strong. The final 10 seconds are just as important as the first. This is your chance to reward viewers for their time and encourage them to come back for more. First 10 seconds: short-term retention. Last 10 seconds: long-term retention. 👉 Consistency I would argue this is the most challenging part of any creative venture because: You will fail at some point; it’s inevitable. How do we get back up, though? I believe consistency in a project is created more in your downtime and less in the time you are actually working on the project. What do I mean? Organize your time, plan ahead, and make sure you have intentional space to work on your content. Balance your lifestyle—good sleep, eating well, proper downtime—all support consistent creativity. When you are working, challenge yourself, set goals, and keep it interesting. 💥 Got any content/editing tips of your own? Share them in the comments! (I have just scratched the surface!) 🚀 One Month Working on The Diary Of A CEO at Flight Studio 🚀 I’m about one month into my role as a Video Editor at Flight Studio. From editing clips (shoutout to Shane Winckworth) to trailers for DOAC under the incredible Anthony Smith (shoutout to Olivia Podmore and Timur Ahmet), it’s been a brilliant journey so far. 🔎 My key findings: - 100% People First: Steven often emphasises that every company is, at its core, a recruitment company. It’s not just about hiring the best but retaining them. At Flight Studio, the culture is truly world-class, and everyone is highly valued. I work with people who are the best at what they do, and they all have incredible attitudes. - Fully Data-Driven: Every decision is meticulously backed by data, there is no guesswork. Coupled with a culture of experimentation led by Grace Miller, this approach fuelled much of DOAC’s growth. - Unparalleled Growth: Flight Studio’s expansion rate is astonishing. It didn’t take long to realise I’m part of a rapidly evolving team and I was very quickly not the ‘new hire’! - SIAU (supportive is an understatement): The culture of support and teamwork here is exceptional. Whether it’s offering advice, giving feedback, or simply providing encouragement, the team is constantly supportive of each other. 💡 I am so thrilled to be part of this journey and keen to share my insights. 👇 Let me know the sort of things you'd love to see below. ---- A huge thank you to these incredible individuals: Jack Sylvester, Georgie Holt, Christiana Brenton, Will Lindsay-Perez, Grace Andrews, Elishama Udorok, Steven Bartlett (and so many more!) for their unwavering support and providing amazing opportunities! 📸 : the incredible Will Lindsay-Perez #FlightStudio #CompanyCulture #Growth #DataDriven #Innovation #DOAC #OneMonth
