Last week saw a world first for The Diary Of A CEO trailers (and how letting the idea influence the medium made all the difference) 💡🔎
I’ve always been fascinated by 3D, but it’s an area where I’ve been waiting for the perfect project to dive into — that moment finally came.
📺 The concept was simple: retro TVs, electronics, and screens showcasing footage.
I knew the B-roll needed to be 3D. I wanted it to have real depth and a visceral feel.
So, I brushed off my very limited Blender knowledge and properly jumped in for the first time…
Here’s what I learned along the way:
1️⃣ Try letting the idea guide the medium, not the other way around:
- Limitations can breed creativity, but when the idea fits the tool so perfectly, it has to be. Don’t force a tool just because it’s comfortable—let the idea dictate what’s needed.
2️⃣ The basics can be more than enough:
- I’m a Blender beginner, but jumping in before I felt fully “ready” worked. Often, we wait until we’re masters at something before using our skills—but we don’t need to be experts to create.
3️⃣ Specialisation is important, but being flexible is key:
- Some of the most valuable tools in my creative kit are ones I’ve only touched a few times. They force me to think differently and adapt, which leads to growth, learning, and usually, something new.
👇🏻 Below is what was created. It’s not perfect, but the learnings were massive.
Safe to say, this project literally added a new dimension to our trailer.
Q: What’s your favourite software that you rarely get a chance to use?
